There are 7 DGCA written subjects for a CPL: Air Navigation, Meteorology, Air Regulations, Technical General, Technical Specific, RTR (Restricted Radiotelephone Operator), and Aviation Medicine. To apply for a Student Pilot License (SPL) in India, you must be at least 16 years old. For a CPL, the minimum age is 18 years. Educationally, you need to have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics. A DGCA Class 2 medical is required to begin flying, and a Class 1 medical is required to hold a CPL. On average, completing a CPL from scratch takes 2.5 to 3.5 years. This includes 6–12 months of DGCA ground school and 18–24 months of flight training to accumulate 200+ hours.
